This has been and is, of paramount importance to your body. Hundreds of years ago people lived off the land, getting their milk straight from a cow, with no pasteurisation process, which takes out half the goodness. They got their eggs from chickens that roamed free and were not battery farmed and not force fed. They got their meat from pasture fed animals, not a man made diet laced with antibiotics. All the animals that supplied them with the foods they needed, were allowed to roam free on the land and live a full and happy life, which provided happy foods rather than the stressed foods we get today, from the animals that are force reared and force fed to meet the demands of the supermarkets.
Today, it is still possible to get happy food from happy animals by visiting your local farm shop, where their animals roam free, are pasture fed and allowed to live a full and happy life.
Right! Now to get back to the good saturated fat. I know what you’re thinking…fat will make me fat, I’ll get high blood pressure and possibly heart problems. This is not the case at all!
Good saturated fat comes from: whole milk, double cream, butter, cheese, eggs, mayonnaise, red meat, poultry, pork, game, the fat and skin on meat, lard and beef dripping. These products provide a good, natural source of saturated fat, that do not breakdown into bad fats, with exception of cheese, which does breakdown into bad fat when cooked at high temperatures, so just add it at the end of cooking.
Good saturated fat is your body’s protector. From head to toe, it galvanises your bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments and neuro-fibres, making you stronger, giving you more sustained energy and making you less susceptible to germs and viruses.
The view in the public domain is that saturated fat is detrimental to your health and can cause problems with your heart. There is no actual proof to confirm this, as saturated fat has been made a scapegoat for coronary heart disease (CHD). Blaming saturated fat for CHD and other health problems, is like blaming the Fire Service for the fire that they have come to put out; they have come to help you, not to make the situation worse!
I am a Personal Trainer and Nutritional Advisor. I live on good saturated fat and recommend this to my clients, whom have lost lots of weight, have more energy and better overall well-being. My mother, whom has angina, lives on the same nutrition as myself. She also has lost alot of weight and not had an angina attack in 20 months. But in theory, according to popular belief in the media, eating more saturated fat she should have made her seriously ill, which has not been the case.
I can’t wait to start on the good saturated fat! I’m going to be training hard over the next few weeks so will need all the energy I can get.
Great Post!
hey this is a very interesting article!
I want to congratulate you on this article. As a woman in her mid thirties I follow every diet new or old to try to loose a few pounds. Since the turn of the year I have been eating good fat and been loosing weight. Working in a predominantly female environment I see and hear about all sorts of diets, more recently `all about w8` and `lighter life`. I have seen colleagues paying £50 per week to basically starve themselves and go into kertosis which is detrimental to the human body. I, however have been eating quality fat and losing weight. The starvation diets do get quick results, however my colleagues have had headaches, are irritable, light headed and have no social life as they pay so much money per week to starve and they can’t eat. I, on the other hand ask for more mayonnaise to go with my chips, I have had more energy, feel great and have a fantastic social life. I cannot recommend saturated fat enough to everyone out there. I have lost in total 20 pounds, yes this has not been over a matter of weeks however if I do cheat on a weekend and have what I fancy I quickly lose the couple of pounds I have put on. My colleagues at work who have paid lots of money to starve have put all their weight back on and more, I however am keeping the pounds off and eating good quality food. Well done for challenging everyone’s preconceived ideas that butter, beef dripping etc is bad for you. Our older generation ate good quality natural food and cooked in natural fats not man made fats. They were fit and healthier than the generation today, maybe we should learn from our elders.
